The international exhibition PERSONAL STRUCTURES is part of the 55th Venice Biennale 2013. The exhibition, initiated by the Dutch artist Rene Rietmeyer and organized by the Global Art Affairs Foundation, will bring together works by 78 invited international artists including Hermann Nitsch and Yoko Ono. Artworks exploring the themes of Time, Space and Existence will take over the rooms of the Palazzo Bembo, a palace built by the Bembo family during the 15th century.

Each room, hallway and corridor will be occupied with artworks by artists from diverse cultures who are working across media including video, sculpture, painting, installation, photography and performance.

The exhibition will seek to encourage viewers to increase their awareness of their surroundings and existence as human beings living at a certain time in a specific place.

The Third Dimension, a complex site-specific abstract installation made of coloured neon stockings that will fill a space, each hue symbolizing a different human emotion.

Nylon stockings are a synthetic intimate apparel. Formfitting and usually covering the wearer’s body from the waist to the feet, they are commonly associated with the feminine experience. They have used nylon pantyhose as a material and subject matter in different ways for several works including Tight (2010), presented at The Hafnarborg Art Museum in Hafnarborg, Iceland and the Amos Anderson Art Museum in Helsinki, Finland, and Think Less – Feel More (2011), a performance at Lilith Performance Studio in Malmö, Sweden.

The work is inspired by the action paintings of Jackson Pollock, who created a new dimension in painting by defying the convention of working on an upright surface with his technique of dripping paint onto a canvas lying on the floor. In The Third Dimension, the elasticity of the stockings stretching and turning throughout the space will evoke a broad spectrum of emotions and notions of control and lack of control. The Icelandic Love Corporation is an art collective currently based in Reykjavík consisting of Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir, Jóní Jónsdóttir and Eirún Sigurðardóttir.
