Arrival in Malta was something of a surprise to me as was staying at the British Hotel in Valletta. The truth is that haven’t been traveling much lately since relocating to Poland.
Although I was taking a break from travel this year, I decided to go to check out the obscure and absurd Sovereign Military Order of Malta – the only UN recognised country / entity with no official land. However, I found out they lease part of Fort St. Angelo in Birgu, Malta so touring that place was high on my agenda.
The Historical British Hotel
I needed a good hotel for my first few days in Malta and opted for the historical and infamous British Hotel in Valletta, Malta’s capital city, an inspired choice.
The British Hotel was one of the first hotels in Valletta and it boasts breathtaking views ofr the grand harbour, one of the biggest natural ports in Europe. The British Hotel has 44 comfortably furnished guest-rooms, all of which have an en-suite with a bath or shower, Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a phone.
The British Hotel is in a seafront position, with six floors and offers scintillating views over the bay. You can also see Fort St. Angelo, the same fort that flies the Sovereign Military Order of Malta flag. And, the views are outstanding.
Panorama Bar and Restaurant
Occupying the second and third floors of the hotel is the stunning Panorama restaurant. They offer a fantastic menu and swanky bar with cold local beer (Cisk) as well as a wide array of whiskey options.
Exploring Valletta From the British Hotel
Valletta is a gorgeous city worth exploring. The British Hotel is in the heart of the city so you can easily explore the entire capital on foot! Most of the city’s attractions are closeby so you can get to them and back to the hotel without taking a cab.
Travelers love to stay in a hotel with a bit of history or fame. I did the Michael Palin pilgrimage in India and Singapore and I slept in The Hemingway Inn in San Jose, Costa Rica. Bernard Jean Étienne Arnault (CEO of Louis Vuitton) recently stayed here!
When you next explore Malta, head to Valletta and stay at the British Hotel!
