Long Street in Cape Town is a familiar place to all those seeking a vibey destination for night-time fun. There are a number of fantastic clubs, restaurants and live music venues to choose from along the road, Zula Sound Bar and Restaurant being one of them.
The Zula Bar philosophy follows a laid back but dedicated stance on our indigenous music and artistic culture; whatever night of the week you’ll find local ands, poetry-reading or comedy onstage. This venue’s goal is to provide a comfortable platform for creatives from Cape Town and beyond to showcase their talent.
On many occasions I’ve seen the dance floor and outside balcony packed to maximum capacity. Bands like The Dirty Skirts, Hog Hoggidy Hog, Taxi Violence, Blaque Haze and The Plastics have played sets to audiences hungry for a good time.
The club is warm, and has an eccentric feel to it. The wooden floors along with the fun artwork throughout create an off-the-wall energy that is inviting to all types of people. There are tables and chairs outside on the balcony where you and friends can enjoy a delicious meal from the kitchen while you watch the world below pass by.
Talking of food, the menu is full of choices for meat-eaters and vegetarians. The pizzas are really popular amongst the regular locals, but you can also sink your teeth into a beef, chicken or ostrich burger. Otherwise enjoy one of their sosaties, but make sure you leave space for dessert; chocolate sundae with crushed brownie. Heck, you can even get corn on the cob if you’re feeling like eating in true South African style.
After dinner, you and your friends can take to the dance floor and dance around to some great beats. There are often DJs spinning out a mixture of classic and contemporary dance tunes. Otherwise you can challenge your friends to a game of Foos ball.
You can contact the Zula team anytime to find out about upcoming events or even to book out the venue. Call Yolandi or Rowan on 021 424 2442. Find Zula Bar at 196 Long Street, Cape Town.
