These photos were taken by photographer Lisa Field-Elliott of the beautiful photo blog Doorwaystraveler.com when she visited Rajasthan, India with Salaam Garage. The “Madina and her Mother” photo was taken at a health clinic for sex workers, and “Bidam” was taken at a women’s empowerment group, September 2009. Lisa and the Salaam Garage were in India on a program to practise citizen journalism and bring awareness, and raise funds, for a group called Vatsalya.
This is from the Salaam Garage website: “Vatsalya was founded in 2000 to provide a better life for children and rural women in Rajasthan, India. Vatsalya runs a home for children, women’s self help groups, HIV/AIDS clinics for truck drivers, a health clinic for female sex workers, and outreach programs for slum kids. Vatsalya’s largest mission is the rescue of homeless, abandoned, and abused children.”
