Introducing a relaxing afternoon at the Zodiac Room, which is a wonderful place for a steadfast favorite activity of mine is afternoon tea. Savory sandwiches, scrumptious scones, and sensational sweets all while sipping a warm beverage and having delightful conversation…what’s not to love?
Enter the Zodiac Room
Augusten and I recently took his Nana to The Zodiac Room to celebrate her birthday, and had such a lovely time. It’s situated in Hudson Yards in Neiman Marcus. You actually have to wind your way through the massive store in order to get there, so it has a bit of a hidden feel to it.
This is the second time I’ve been to the Zodiac Room, and neither time has it been crowded (which means you totally don’t feel rushed–something one can appreciate when dining anywhere in NYC. We had a 3 pm reservation and clearly stayed until way after sunset with no issue.) AND, you can make a reservation via OpenTable, which if you know me is essential. I’m not a fan of having to call restaurants to reserve.
The floor to ceiling windows look down onto the city, with sweeping views to the south as well. It’s a truly beautiful and spacious setting. There’s a plant based tea available, which is great if you’re avoiding ham and salmon on those sammies.
The tea is served from 3 pm to 5 pm daily, and a setting is $45 a person, or $65 with a glass of champagne. So still coming in quite cheaper than many of the teas in NYC, but retaining that air of luxury. Trust me, you’ll be happy you saved a few Jacksons when you see the gorgeous shoe department on your way out.
Beyond tea at the Zodiac Room, imagine small demitasse of chicken broth followed by popovers served piping hot with strawberry butter, salads, fresh seafood, house-made pastas, and vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free menu items. Add a touch of luxury to a business or social luncheon at The Zodiac Room or do an upscale take-out. W
