Half the fun of traveling is trying new foods and even more fun is trying weird or sexy food. If you want to add a little spice to your relationship, try some new off-the-wall dishes together. Trying weird, strange, crazy meals just might bring you closer since some foods are said to be aphrodisiacs.
Weird & Sexy Food
Some of the items listed below may not appear to be very erotic but keep an open mind. For example, say you taste a few crunchy crickets together in Bangkok; at the very least you can say you’ve never done that with anyone else before!
Be brave; you never know what will tempt your taste-buds and turn you on! Let us know in the comments section below if any of these items does ignite the passion for you.
Okay, this isn’t a sexy food, or even a food, but it sure is sexy to try together while dining! The Green Fairy is legal but banned from being sold in bars and liquor stores in the United States. Crazy, right? No matter, this potent spirit made from sweet fennel and anise can be found in several countries like France, Switzerland, Australia, Spain, and the Czech Republic. If you’re feeling a bit bohemian and want to get a little intoxicated on more than love, sip some absinthe and see if you and your lover don’t start singing the soundtrack of “Moulin Rouge” together.
Gator, a sexy food? Thanks to reality shows like “Gator Boys” and “Swamp People”, alligator meat (which really does taste like chicken) now costs three times as much as it used to. I don’t know that I find a meal of gator meat very romantic, but if you’ve got a man who believes he’ll become more virile by eating this beast, by all means, try it.
I’ve only had this meat once in Nigeria. Some people might think the meat is a bit tough, but mine was soaked in special spices so it was pretty good. However, I would no longer try any type of bushmeat since the Ebola crisis was supposedly started from this gamey meat. If you feel safe trying it, go ahead. Sure, engaging in risky behavior can be thrilling and get you excited, but I’ll pass on this one. Whichever gamey bush meat you consider trying; chimpanzee, gorilla, monkey, rat, deer or bat, please be make sure you do your research first.
If you’ve ever visited Levant, Armenia, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, or Turkey, you’ll know why this dish is on the list. Of course, you can get it in the States, but it’s never quite the same. Eggplant mixed with tahini, olive oil and seasonings make this the perfect appetizer for a romantic dinner.
Bagel and Lox
I’m from NYC, so I had to include this popular local brunch item. It’s the perfect morning after treat when you’re lying in bed together on a Sunday morning.
This Middle Eastern desert is decadent. Baklava is a rich, sickly sweet pastry made from a flaky, filo dough crust and stuffed with chopped nuts. It’s covered in a thick syrup or honey, so you can see why this sinful treat is a must for lovers.
Bird’s Nest Soup
This rare and expensive soup is a delicacy throughout SouthEast Asia and so on the sexy food list. Edible bird’s nests are created by swiftlets using solidified saliva, which are harvested for human consumption. I’ve never thought of saliva as sexy, but hey, you never know until you try it for yourself.
I never knew why people considered caviar an aphrodisiac or sexy food, but recently I learned that it gives a huge burst of energy because it contains the amino acid arginine, a vascular dilator which increases blood flow. Whatever…that’s over my head. If it gets a man horny, that’s all I need to know.
Whether you prefer chicken tikka masala or chicken korma, both Indian dishes can put you in the mood for love. The potent blend of coconut, garlic, chili peppers, ginger, almonds is believed to improve sex drive in women.
Hey, if the people who created the Kama Sutra say it’s true, who am I to disagree?
A frozen banana dipped in hot chocolate and swirled with crushed nuts…omg this traditional treat found in Guatemala made me forget I didn’t know a damn word of Spanish. I made friends real quick by simply drooling and pointing.
I saw plenty of crispy crickets and other insects for sale in Thailand. I wasn’t a big fan, but people tell me that’s because I didn’t try them with the special sauce or the famous Thai pepper powder. Apparently, couples often share this snack together with cold beers on dates in Thailand. Try them and see whether you find nibbling on insects sexy and whether you think they warrant being on the sexy food list.
Durian Ice Cream
Okay, full disclosure, I hate durian ice cream. I’m a food addict, so I usually love almost everything you can cook, but I found it pretty disgusting. The woman who gave me the sample in Singapore said that durian is an acquired taste, and you either love it or hate it, but I was not interested in trying it again.
Durian is a fruit, and is banned in some Asian countries. At least, its banned from being carried on the subway. Perhaps this food is so potent and powerful government officials are afraid the population will explode, who knows? But some, believe it or not, consider it kinda a sexy food.
Eel (Unagi Don)
This is one of my favorite Japanese dishes. I often have a really hard time deciding between sushi (my favorite) and unagi don whenever I hit a Japanese spot because I love both entrees.
I tried buying eel in Chinatown once and cooking it myself, but it was a disaster. I probably couldn’t eat it because I’s watched Youtube videos to see how to prepare it and apparently chefs usually kill it right before throwing it in the pan. It freaked me out.
If you do get it the next time you’re at a Japanese restaurant, I’m guessing you’ll have a pretty hot night. Supposedly, eel has some sensual qualities because it’s said to be a turn on for those who dare to eat it.
I don’t remember what ingredients are in this, but I used to eat it all the time in Nigeria. It’s a thick, incredibly spicy dish you eat with rice or fufu, (pounded yam) that looks like mashed potatoes.
You eat fufu with your fingers, so all that licking and slurping and consuming all that spicy hot pepper is sure to get your juices flowing. So sure — why not a great addition for this for weird, sexy food list?
Most people scrunch up their face at the thought of eating frog legs, but really, they do taste like chicken.
Besides, if you’re not kissing any frogs, you might as well eat one.
This is similar to doughboys, a decadent dessert I used to find at carnivals on the East Coast.
You can find this deep fried and sugary powdered treat at Coney Island, where you should definitely go if you’re looking for a romantic place for a date.
Walk along the boardwalk or take a ride on the Ferris wheel, and later you can dance together to salsa and merengue, reggae, or house music where DJ’s and live musicians set up each week during the summer.
Goat Meat Stew
Another popular dish in Nigeria, this stew is filling so try it after you’ve worked up an appetite sexercising, otherwise your partner just might fall asleep on you.
With my first paycheck ever, I went to a famous place in Federal Hill in Providence, Rhode Island to buy an Italian Grinder. Today the restaurant is called Wise Guys (Atwells Avenue). The service in this takeout place isn’t so great, but the sandwiches are to die for.
If your guy loves “The Godfather” or any other mafia movie, bring him here. Gangster posters from famous mobster movies line the walls, but you won’t notice as you inhale your Italian grinder stuffed with ham, salami, cheese, and a special, secret oil you can’t really find anywhere else.
Tortillas, eggs, tomato-chili sauce, refried beans, rice, and avocado or guacamole make this Mexican breakfast a popular breakfast dish. I don’t normally like Mexican food, but this I make an exception for and I feel it warrants being on the weird, sexy food list, not because it’s unusual but because it’s oh so so good. there’s a sensual quality to it.
OMG if you’ve never tried this, be warned; you are going to be addicted to this not so weird, sexy food. There’s something about this chicken, usually barbecued in a steel drum anywhere in Jamaica, that makes your mouth water just thinking about it. If your date is the Caribbean as well, you’re in for a really lovely evening.
If indigenous Australians have been eating kangaroo for years because of its high percentage of protein and being low in fat, maybe there’s something to the rumor that this is a perfect food for getting things heated up in the bedroom. I’ll try anything once.
This is probably my favorite dish. I ate it once or twice a week in Florida, but I’ve never been able to find lobster as good as the ones we would eat at clambakes in the summer in Maine. When on dates in NYC, however, I’ve often had some pretty amazing lobster sushi at high end restaurants. I’ve also found fantastic lobster meals on Nautical Mile in Freeport, NY. Wherever you are, if you’re able to find a place that has good quality seafood, this is such an aphrodisiac and oh such a sexy food.
I have no idea what’s in Mofongo, but this Puerto Rican meal is off the hook. I know no one says “off the hook” anymore, but bite into this thick, juicy meal and you’ll see what I mean.
I lived off moussaka for months when I was in Egypt. I recently found a recipe for this sexy dish, so I’m excited to find someone to cook it for.
It’s simply a mixture of peeled eggplant, tomatoes, and peppers sauteed in oil with a bit of vinegar and cumin. I can’t tell you why it’s such a sensual dish for me because I know eggplant (or aubergine as the Egyptians call it) is not everyone’s cup of tea, but you might be surprised that you actually love this side dish.
Okay, this is the first thing people think of when they’re discussing aphrodisiacs, and some people consider them to be a weird, sexy food.
I read that oysters contain a lot of zinc, which increases sperm and testosterone, as well as the hormone dopamine, which increases the libido, so I may not eat oysters, but I’ll make sure my date does.
This delicious rice and seafood dish originated in Portugal. Seafood is always sexy if you ask me, but the Portuguese add a little something extra that just gets you excited, or maybe it’s the accent that arouses me. In any case, try paella and let me know what you think and whether it should be on the weird, sexy food list. We love it.
Philly Cheese Steak
Okay, I know when you’re a female, the last thing you want to do is to eat a messy steak sandwich when out on date night. But only those who have never been to Philadelphia to try this infamous dish would be reluctant. I don’t give a damn who I’m with; no man is hot enough to make me pass on a Philly Cheese Steak for a dainty little salad. Hell to the no.
Whether you prefer them hard-boiled or fried, these petite little eggs are a delicious delicacy in Thailand and other parts of the world. I first tasted this snack in Koh Samui at an open-air food market, and then went back every day for more.Outdoor markets in Asia are a great place to go on a date. You can sample lots of things you’ll never find in the States, not even in Chinatown.
I have not tried snake meat, but I watched a funny video with Gordan Ramsay where he ate a still-beating snake heart in Vietnam with a group of local guys, and they swear they can have sex five times in one night after eating snake, so at least try to get your man to try it.
I don’t know if foods can actually be aphrodisiacs or not, but depending on the shape, texture, or whether the food contains phenylethylamine and serotonin — two things that supposedly cause you to feel the same way as someone falling in love does, so it doesn’t hurt to try some new weird, sexy food.
What’s the strangest, weirdest sexy food you’ve ever had?
